What do you guys think of oysters? Mike Chen formerly from Off The Great Wall calls them "boogers of the sea", which is such an un-appetizing name that I had in the back of my mind as I ate these. These oysters are from Hog Island Oyster Co. in San Francisco.
This place is quite popular so I decided to take my dearest there when he arrived from the airport. The verdict? I wasn't blown away. I think I might have to agree with Mike that they are just a blob of goo from the ocean. I will get so much hate for those that are in love with oysters, but these ones were small, tasteless, and just wasn't worth the price. The oysters that we got were the original Pacific 6 piece oysters for $18. I think I regret not getting grilled ones instead...
These oysters didn't have much taste and each of them are worth $3 which is so far from my own budget!
LUCKILY! That's not all we ordered, because we also ordered the shrimp and grits which were so above the oysters! (Picture below) The shrimp was amazing needless to say because the flavor was there and add a little bit of lemon for it to all comes together. So, I'm not saying that this place is bad, but for the price of the oysters it's not worth it. I rather come here for the small plates they offer. Also you see that they serve free bread in the photos below, but we never touched that bread. I think we came during the wrong time for bread because that bread is so hard on the touch that we didn't when take a bite of it.
I think I need to try oysters elsewhere and hopefully for a cheaper price, any recommendations? Also maybe the grilled oysters would be better since they have more flavor?
Thanks for reading!
